Exercise and Parkinson’s

It is well documented that exercise can help everyone feel better and improve overall health. Recent studies have shown that exercise may hold specific benefits for people with Parkinson’s disease.

  • Preventing and/or slowing progression: Studies have linked exercise to reduced risk of Parkinson’s and slower progression of the symptoms. While it’s still not clear why, scientists believe exercise may help the brain cells stay healthy.
  • Managing symptoms: Exercise improves muscular strength, improves brain health and helps reduce or manage other symptoms. Some symptoms, such as balance and coordination are directly improved through exercise.
  • Avoiding isolation:  Exercising with a group can make exercise a social activity.  Staying active and participating in social activities can lower stress and help ease symptoms of Parkinson’s disease.

Exercise is one of the most powerful treatments for people with Parkinson’s disease. Our group based Parkinson’s exercise program provides participants with a safe and effective exercise program designed specifically to help improve the lives of people that live with the disease.

Why is The Parkinson's Exercise Program effective?

Our exercise program is effective because it focuses on Parkinson’s Disease from a group and individual basis. Every participant is able to participate in various exercises that are geared towards common Parkinson’s symptoms.  Our staff also understands that each person comes with their own set of strengths and weaknesses. Exercising in a group setting increases morale and provides support for people with Parkinson’s.

How is the Parkinson's Exercise Program different from other general exercise programs?

Our program is different from other general exercise programs as it provides each client with a group based exercise program that is geared towards improving the symptoms that commonly affect individuals with Parkinson’s. Each participant and their caregivers have the opportunity to exercise while being supervised and directed by professionals.
